At this time, when you said foam you meant what we call Styrofoam, which was horrible, you could take your finger and just push it right through. It was kind of crude, but it was hard and dense… you could just get your fingernail in it. “One Friday night in February of ‘58,” Hobie tells the story, “this guy, Kent Doolittle, walked into the shop and showed us this little piece of foam that was about this big aroundĪnd about that thick (Hobie’s hands abstract a shape roughly the size of a deck of cards). “Well, you might call it that,” agreed Yater, “because He did, like I say, very extreme things.” In essence, this was the beginning of rocker in surfboards. Rennie Yater pointed out that, “His spoon nose, you know ‑ it’s been copied ever since. Simmons, Quigg and Kivlin carried their board-building New Simmons ‘spoon.’“ 42 Nat referred to one of the many other ideas to pop out at this time. “If you really wanted one of his boards,” wrote Nat Young, who talked with some guys around at the time, “you had to pay for it up front and sometimes you had to wait for a year to get a This is the method developed by Hobie Alter and Gordon “Grubby” Clark in the late 1950s. Most of these blanks are made oversize so the custom builder can trim them down to shapes desired by individual buyers.” 6 The molded blanks are now ready to be sold to custom The heat cures the foam, which is then removed from the molds. Once the mix is in the molds it is baked for approximately thirty minutes. TheĬhemical liquids are first heated, mixed in new clean paper containers that can only be used once, and then poured into the molds (One foam blank manufacturer used so many paper containers that he had to build his own containerįactory to keep up with his needs). The blank is the semi-fiinished shape that emerges from the mold when the chemicals are mixed and then ‘cooked‘… Several chemical ingredients go into the mix before a board blank is cast. Surfboards do not come out of the molds as a finished product. “Perhaps the most important advantage in manufacturing,” wrote Peter Dixon in the 1969 edition of The Complete Book of Surfing, “is that foam can be mixed and molded into almost any size and shape. Sysdig continues to work in step with AWS and the cloud-native market to make the process of instrumenting containers and Kubernetes more accessible with support for Prometheus monitoring. Prometheus is a powerful tool, but it comes with scaling and integration challenges. In addition, many developers standardize on open source Prometheus monitoring to gain insight. Popular among AWS users, Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring and observability service that provides data and actionable insights when monitoring applications, allowing Ops engineers, developers, site reliability engineers (SREs), and IT managers to respond to system-wide performance changes, optimize resource utilization, and get a unified view of operational health. The ultimate goal of moving to the cloud is being able to maximize availability and innovate faster. Key improvements focused on stability, security, and optimizing the API calls to reduce the costs of Amazon CloudWatch metrics usage.īlog: Improving the Prometheus exporter for Amazon CloudWatchĪs organizations adopt cloud-native solutions, lack of visibility and security are the biggest barriers for adoption. The company ended up contributing improvements to an already created open source exporter for Amazon CloudWatch to enhance its readiness for scale and production use. In supporting five more AWS services, Sysdig realized the need for a production-grade Prometheus exporter for Amazon CloudWatch. PROMETHEUS CLOUDWATCH EXPORTER FREEWhile the commercial Sysdig Secure DevOps Platform provides support for most AWS services, including Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) and Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), the free options are new to PromCat. Sysdig will continue to add more support for AWS to PromCat, which launched in March, with the goal of supporting the most popular AWS services by the end of the year. The goal is to help developers save time when connecting Prometheus monitoring for visibility across cloud infrastructure and AWS managed services. The support packages come with an exporter, documentation, dashboards, and alerts created by Sysdig. Sysdig added support for AWS Fargate, AWS Lambda, AWS Application Load Balancer (AWS ALB), AWS Elastic Load Balancer (AWS ELB), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) to PromCat.io, the company’s free repository of curated Prometheus compatibility options. This did no occur to me straight away as the the port is not exposed externally.SAN FRANCISCO-( BUSINESS WIRE)-Sysdig, Inc., a secure DevOps leader, today announced support for five Amazon Web Service (AWS) services to make it easier to use Prometheus with Amazon CloudWatch. Solution: I had to open a port in the firewall on the host. Has anyone seen this error before or have any suggestions on how I might fix this?Įdit: My server is running on Ubuntu Server and my Docker version is 20.10.6. I tried increasing the scrape interval and timeout values, but this did not help. However, it seems Prometheus is not able to get the data from node_exporter an I am getting an Context Deadline Exceeded error when looking at the target status page. Since the node exporter port is only reachable on the host I am using as I saw this recommended a couple of places. I run up Prometheus with the docker-compose for the service as shown below and have made a configuration file where I have made a scape config for node exporter. I am getting sensor data when doing curl on the host (see screenshot below). Node exporter is configured and seems to be running fine. I am running Prometheus as a Docker container and have set up node_exporter directly on the host for scraping data to be made available for Prometheus on port 9100. I am trying to set up an instance of Prometheus for collecting host sensor data on my server.

Longer trips so I can do more of everything and not feel rushed. I live in NYC so pre-Covid there were100 places to get world class entertainment every day but I loved in Vegas being able to see Celine Dion night 1 with an elevator ride down from my hotel room in Caesars or 20 minute walk from Wynn, some other artist on Day 2, potentially with an even shorter walk, etc.īut I DO enjoy gambling a lot and not feeling rushed. That was a nice feature that don't exist in the Encore spa though not as relevant for me as I spend 95% of my time in the water areas, in the the treatment room, or in the gender-specific lounge area snacking or lounging/relaxing.Ĭlick to expand.Agree 100% with this though I have always been a spa person but experiencing world class spas has only made me MORE of a spa person. Not 100% sure because no one was there as it was "closed" but you have to walk by it to get to your specific treatment room. Can't remember fully but I think that large circular area is a co-ed area so if you are a couple waiting for a treatment you could hang there with your SO. When the spas fully open and if I happen to be staying on the Wynn side rather than Encore, I'd just go very early or very late in the day when spas generally are less crowded.ĮTA: I am not 100% sure but I recall there being this dark, elegant, decadent (with all of the finishes, lounge chairs, etc.) and large lounge area once you entered the spa before going into different treatment rooms. For that reason alone I still much prefer the Encore spa but they are both fabulous. Encore's is appreciably bigger and you really see it in the water treatment areas. Much darker vibe but still quite elegant, but one thing the remodel couldn't do was to make the spa bigger. That's why I am a big believer of using the spa where you are staying, even as between Wynn and Encore.Ĭlick to expand. The remodel is wonderful. To answer you question, I prefer the Encore spa for its aesthetic and the size of the spa, which is larger than Wynn's but the most significant thing is that I was staying in Encore all of the time pre Covid and would go to and from the spa in my robe without having to go through the casino. Ironically, other than hanging out by the pool, this routine for me is the least expensive thing to do at Wynncore and Vegas generally and one of the most decadent.ĮTA. Over a period of days I would wind up packing, easily, a pound of that concoction to bring back to NYC. Hydrating with pineapple juice over ice, water, tea, and the amazing in house granola with lavender popcorn and other goodies in the spa was just wonderful.
